The journey to create Auckland’s premier indoor skating rink began in 2014 when the Mt Wellington Roller Sports Club initiated discussions with Auckland City Council. Despite two years of meetings without success, the club approached Bruce Pulman Park in Takanini, South Auckland, and received immediate interest.
Key Milestones: 2016: A $25,000 Feasibility Study was completed, updated in 2018 ($25,000) and again in 2023 ($10,000), to highlight the need for this facility. Location: The facility will be part of Bruce Pulman Park, a world-class sports complex featuring rugby fields, a basketball stadium, gymnastics, athletics facilities, and more, with an onsite accommodation lodge.
What’s Coming? The new skating and skateboarding complex is designed to meet international and Olympic standards and will include:
Two indoor rinks: 50x25m and 40x20m
Party rooms, meeting spaces, changing rooms, cafeteria, and removable bleacher seating
Skateboarding complex: Designed by specialist contractors for top-tier events
Vision: This state-of-the-art facility will cater to all skating levels—from competitive athletes to casual skaters. Public sessions will also be available, ensuring a vibrant and inclusive community hub. The project, led by the Mt Wellington Roller Sports Club with Bruce Pulman’s support, is now moving into the construction planning phase.
